Franz Leichter

Franz Sigmund Leichter (born 1930 in Austria) served in the New York State Assembly from 1969 to 1974 and the New York State Senate from 1975 to 1998. He came to the United States as a refugee from German-occupied Europe in 1940 with his father and brother. His mother Käthe Leichter (1895–1942) was a leading sociologist and feminist. She was arrested by the Gestapo in 1938, sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp and killed in 1942.
